What’s on the menu at Bijas Vegetarian Restaurant
If you thought university canteens only offered cheap, nasty and unhealthy food – think again! We’ve put our palates to the test and found some canteens in Hong Kong aren’t too shabby – here are six to try.
The following are based on unannounced visits by our writers and paid for by Coconuts Hong Kong.

The first ever Chinese vegetarian university canteen, Bijas Vegetarian Restaurant, opened last year at the University of Hong Kong. If you’re wondering why it’s called Bijas, in Sanskrit, Bijas means seeds of our mind. The restaurant is all about mindful eating – encourages customers to eat healthy, wisely and cherish food so instead of standard sized meals, you weigh the amount of food you want and pay for what you get. Not only that, the restaurant also hires the visually and hearing impaired. This is definitely the place to be if you’re feeling like doing some good!
