It has been reported that more than 200 demonstrators staged a protest outside Ming Pao’s offices in Chai Wan today.
The demonstrators are protesting against the replacement of the agency’s Chinese language newspaper chief editor Kevin Lau with former chief editor of a Malaysian newspaper and currently living in Singapore Chong Tien Siong.
The sudden replacement of the chief editor has led many academics to believe that Hong Kong’s press freedom is under threat.
Last week, four writers from Ming Pao newspaper protested against the agency’s decision by refusing to write their sections, leaving their columns blank in the Chinese language newspaper.
