Newborn baby girl dumped in public toilet with cord still attached

Tong Shui Road, North Point

The body of a newborn baby was found in a public toilet on Tong Shui Road in North Point.

Wrapped in a napkin and pink clothes, the newborn baby girl was found yesterday in a black shopping bag left on top of the toilet tank by the cleaner. The baby had bruises on her forehead and had dark skin, so authorities believe that her parents are South Asians.

The cleaner found the black bag in the last cubicle of the public toilet, which is open 24 hours and has frequent traffic from foreign helpers and housewives at a nearby wet market. She thought someone left it behind the first day and ignored it, but when she saw it there again on the second day, the cleaner opened the bag and was horrified to discover its contents.

The autopsy judged that the baby had been dead for over a day, and authorities are still determining whether the baby was born dead or died after birth, the cause of her death, as well as her ethnicity.
