The Hong Kong observatory recorded a 1.8 magnitude earthquake at Tuen Mun Tai Lam Chung Reservoir yesterday at 12:47pm. A few citizens reported the incident and said that they felt the ground quaking lightly. This is the first time an earthquake has happened in the Tuen Mun area.
Since 1979, there has been six earthquakes in Hong Kong , with three earthquakes happening all within one month in 1995 at Lantau, with magnitudes of 3.1, 2.4, and 2.2, all of which were stronger than yesterday’s earthquake. The observatory said that the chance of a major earthquake happening in Hong Kong is very low.
Luckily we don’t have to worry about earthquakes on top of typhoons, air pollution and unaffordable homes!
