Coldest February in HK since 1996: 17 dead

Everyone please keep warm! With temperatures suddenly dropping to just 7.5 degrees Celsius, one of the coldest February’s in Hong Kong since 1996, about 17 people have died from the cold weather.

Nine people were reported to have frozen to death on Monday and eight yesterday. About 1,800 of the elderly called for help via their Personal Emergency Link and 115 were sent to the hospital.  

The Hong Kong government has opened up 15 temporary shelters for those in need.
