Commercial Radio fires government critic Li Wei-ling “for no reason”

In a dismissal that shocked the public and raised concerns about press freedom in Hong Kong, Commercial Radio fired radio show host and fierce government critic Li Wei-Ling. Li said the dismissal was sudden and she was not given a reason for the decision, and Commercial Radio offered no comment on the situation.

Li worked as normal yesterday, talking to guests until 5 or 6 pm before she was suddenly notified that she was dismissed. Li demanded a swift explanation from the station and wrote on Facebook last night: “Although they can ruthlessly remove me from my position, they can’t stop me from monitoring Hong Kong’s current affairs.”
