23-year-old Manselius Antti Oskari from Finland remains in police custody while his court hearing is adjourned to Apr. 27 for making a false claim of a bomb on a Cathay Pacific flight from Amsterdam to Hong Kong last month.
The court heard Oskari held up a bar of chocolate and told flight crew members that he was hijacking the plane and asked the flight to be diverted to Sochi so he could watch the Winter Olympics. He told the crew that there was a bomb in the first-class cabin. After an extensive search, the crew found nothing and the Finn was arrested in Hong Kong when the plane landed.
Oskari tried to request for bail but was rejected as the charge was serious and because he had no local contact he could easily flee the city. Under the Public Order Ordinance, a false bomb claim is a serious crime and if found guilty can be fined to HK$150,000 and jailed for five years.
