Peng Chau doctor, who offered HK$3 medical care to the poor, passed away

78-year-old Dr. Yong, who had provided medical care for the residents of Peng Chau for half a century despite painstakingly making the commute from his home in Causeway Bay into Peng Chau everyday, had passed away and is sorely missed.

He had provided affordable health care to the poor for 50 years, charging HK$3 for his services, a fee that remained unchanged in 50 years. His clinic is the only private clinic in Peng Chau.

His funeral is attended by many of the 6,000 residents in Peng Chau and the village council is planning to establish a monument in his memory.
