Hong Kong born triad involved in California State Senator Leland Yee corruption case

Hong Kong born Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow was arrested last week by the FBI for allegedly being involved in corruption and smuggling illegal firearms with other defendants including the California State Senator Leland Yee.

54-year-old Chow appeared in court and was denied bail. The FBI alleges that Chow and others involved in the case had laundered millions for undercover agents and trafficked illegal guns, cigarettes and liquor. The defendants also had Yee exert political influence over a medical marijuana legislation in exchange for campaign money. Yee has been connected to the case for doing political favours in return for campaign donations. The trial is ongoing.

Chow was part of the Hop Sing Tong gang at the tender age of nine before moving to the States, and being involved with the American branch of the Hong Kong-based triad groups Wo Hop To and Hop Sing Tong.
