Where’s the giant Ferris Wheel on the harbourfront?

Almost a year after the contract to build a giant sightseeing Ferris wheel overlooking the harbour was awarded to Swiss AEX, there has been no sign of any structure being erected on the site.

Swiss AEX won the three-year contract to operate an observation wheel in front of Central Pier against four other competitors for a monthly rent of HK$850,000 in May last year.

Details of the plan for the giant Ferris wheel is shrouded in secrecy, with the spokesman for Swiss AEX saying that they will not provide any information during the development or construction of the project.

The only thing we know is that the Hong Kong Observation Wheel’s diameter will be no less than 50 metres — far smaller than Singapore’s (165m) or Nanchang’s (160m). We sure hope it will materialise soon!
