African man beats up passerby on street

An African man, who is in Hong Kong seeking political asylum, beat up a Hong Kong man on the street in Yau Ma Tei. The man was with his three-year-old son and was angry because the passerby bumped into him and his son said he was hit in the chaos.

Though the passerby reportedly apologised, the suspect grabbed the passerby’s collar and punched his face several times, and even when the police arrived, he continued to be violent towards the passerby. It was not until the police took out their batons and forcibly restrained the man that he stopped, reports The Sun. The suspect was then arrested.

Editor’s note: The original version of this story referred to the suspect as “African” several times. This poor judgment was due to hasty translating and editing and was rightfully called out as being racially insensitive by several readers.
