Hong Kong Sanatorium hospital has treatment for peanut-allergic children

The Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital claims it can help cure children allergic to peanuts.

The treatment is an oral desensitisation, where patients ingest tiny amounts of peanuts with the drug in three phases, taking over just six years – escalation for six months, maintenance for three years and three years review. The cost for the treatment ranges from HK$100,000 to HK$300,000 depending on how much drug the patient requires.

The hospital said four children currently in the treatment can eat more than nine peanuts of flour equivalent daily and their peanut tolerance has improved from 470 to 4,800 times, reports The Standard.
