Man gets only HK$1,600 after withdrawing HK$3,000 from an HSBC ATM machine

A man, surnamed Chan, recently tried to withdraw HK$3,000 from an HSBC ATM machine at Wong Tai Sin but the machine only dispensed HK$1,600 in cash to him. Chan tells Apple Daily HSBC has refused to admit fault and reimburse him.

Chan says the incident occurred on Mar. 29. He withdrew HK$3,000 in cash, but the ATM machine only dispensed three HK$500 notes and one HK$100 note, totaling to HK$1,600 – HK$1,400 less than what he should have got.

Chan noticed the top HK$100 dollar note appeared folded several times, and claimed he showed the CCTV cameras what he got.

Thinking that the notes were stuck, he tried to withdraw another HK$100, but the machine prompted him with an error message saying there were insufficient funds left in the machine to process his request.

Chan then went on the HSBC mobile app and found that HK$3,000 had been debited from his accounts. He called HSBC to explain the situation and asked them to reimburse his loss but even after viewing the CCTV footage, HSBC has disputed responsibility.
