LINE users scammed of money because of app’s security loophole

LINE, the mobile chat app with four billion users worldwide, has been discovered by fraudsters to have a security loophole. Scammers have been benefiting from the security loophole by logging into LINE users’ accounts, pretending to be them and sending messages to their contacts to purcahse MyCard prepaid cards at convenience stores and top-up specific accounts on the web, cheating many from hundreds to thousands of dollars.

According to the Apple Daily, the police have received multiple complaints and in the Wong Tai Sin area, there were three such cases in just one day. LINE Hong Kong said that they are in the process of updating the app which will prevent future security breaches.
