This is nuts! The video of a mainland toddler pooping in public on a Mong Kok street has really taken the rift between Hongkongers and mainland China to a whole new level.
First, the video goes viral attracting millions of viewers, comments and reposts on Facebook, Twitter and Weibo. Then angry mainland netizens declared to boycott travel and shopping in Hong Kong so that Hongkongers will feel the results of losing mainland tourists.
And now an online campaign has been launched to urge mainland parents to bring their children to Hong Kong to pee and poop in public, or in their words “familiarise Hong Kong people” with human functions.
They might want to double think before doing so as it is against the law to pee and poop in any public street in Hong Kong. As the SCMP reports, Hong Kong’s Public Cleansing and Prevention of Nuisances Regulation prohibits those in charge of a child under 12 from permitting the child without reasonable excuse, “to obey the call of nature in any public street”. Violators can be fined up to HK$2,000.
