Five days paid paternity leave: wishful thinking!

Hong Kong may be heading one step closer to paid paternity leave, as a bill was tabled at the Legislative Council in March for fathers to opt to take three days off and be paid four-fifths of their average wages. Yet, following the footsteps of other countries which get up to two weeks fully-paid paternity leave is not in the plans of the Hong Kong government.

After the bill was tabled legislators described the government’s plans as “miserly” and lawmakers recommended the government look at increasing paternity leave to five or seven days with full pay. Legislators argue that Hong Kong should follow other parts of the world where fathers get two weeks off.

According to the RTHK , the government however, has announced that it has no plans to increase the paternity leave.
