A 39-year-old woman who lives in Po Lam Estate in Tseung Kwan O unintentionally fell asleep at 11 pm last night while a pot of water was boiling on the stove, which she was using to sterilize her one-year-old son’s milk bottles. She woke up at 5:30am to the sound of her baby coughing, and realized that smoke had filled the apartment, reports Apple Daily.
She ran out of the house with her 9-year-old daughter and her 15-year-old son, covering their faces with towels. The Fire Department arrived at the scene. There was no fire, but the pot, stove and kitchen wall had been burnt black, and well, as for her baby bottles—no good anymore, that’s for sure.
The family was sent to the hospital to be treated for mild smoke inhalation, with all escaping any injury.
The woman was very relieved that her family escaped unharmed, as she says they could have all died. She was trying to save money buy avoiding buying a sterilization machine, but now she might consider buying one.
