Good! Centre for Food Safety suspends imports from Husi Food Company over fears of rotten meat

Dr Lee Siu Yuen, the Assistant Director of the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department, announced the decision today to suspend the import of any products coming from the mainland Chinese supplier Husi Food Company.

Any food originating from the Husi Food Company that is already in Hong Kong will be stored and banned from sale.

The company in question has been the subject of global scrutiny when a video surfaced showing rotten and dirty meat being processed at its Shanghai plant.

The decision comes after the Centre for Food Safety conducted an investigation into whether the ingredients from the Husi Food Company’s Shanghai plant had made its way into Hong Kong food.

The investigation discovered that McDonald’s had been one of the company’s clients, receiving pork and chicken from the Shanghai Husi Food plant.

The Centre has also taken over 1,000 samples from Hong Kong chain restaurants to test for any contaminants.
