Centre for Food Safety says McDonald’s lied to them about where their meat came from

The Centre for Food Safety’s assistant director of food surveillance and control, Dr. Lee Siu Yuen, said that McDonald’s told officials that their chicken came from the Hebei plant of the Husi Food Company, and not the Shanghai plant, reports the SCMP.  The Shanghai plant is the one that’s been getting a lot of flack, to say the least, for allegedly using expired meat and meat that had fallen to the ground.

Last Thursday, McDonald’s admitted that they did import chicken from Husi Food’s Shanghai plant. Oops! Did you say Shanghai? We thought you said Hebei! They took McNuggets in addition to other items like McSpicy chicken filets, fresh corn cups, iced lemon tea, green salads and chicken salads, according to the SCMP.

That same day they issued an apology for the “confusion” they caused, says the SCMP. They issued another apology the following Saturday “for the lack of clarity which has led to public confusion and anxiety and had disappointed our customers”.

McDonald’s Hong Kong website wants everyone to know that “all McDonald’s® products, from the selection of ingredients through preparation and cooking, comply with the most stringent food safety and quality standards”. Right.
