The Centre for Food Safety has told the public not to consume peanut and almond butters from Arrowhead Mills, MaraNatha, Kroger, Safeway, Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. Forty-three different types of butters in total have been recalled by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and some of them may have been imported into Hong Kong.
The best before dates of the possibly contaminated batches range between Dec. 4, 2014 and July 21, 2015. Hong Kong retailers have stopped selling them, though the government can’t be sure they’ve tracked them all down. So the next time you innocently make a peanut butter (or almond butter, if you’re weird) jelly sandwhich, make sure to check the brand of nut butter that you’re using.
Salmonella can cause fever, vomiting, and diarrhea and is more likely to infect infants and young children due to their weaker immune systems.
