Son on murder trial for stabbing sleeping parents ‘was absorbed in a fantasy world’

A son on trial for murder after his parents were stabbed multiple times as they slept has said he was acting as a made up character at the time. Christoffer Ian Lee Fok, 20, claimed he was absorbed in a fantasy world when he enlisted the help of former school friend Chan Ming-tin to “assassinate” his parents.

The two young men were arrested on March 16 last year after Fok’s father, Fok Lai-chi, 50, was found dead and his mother, Irene Fok, suffered multiple stab wounds. Chan, who was acting as “the knife” according the SCMP, pleaded guilty to murder, while Fok has denied one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.

Fok, who told officers after his arrest that he even had different messaging accounts so he could communicate with his other self, said “I had thrown myself mentally into the character set in my story; already in a situation that I had no control over myself, I was turning the character into reality.”

Fok described how he devised 90 percent of the plan, and gave Chan a set of keys, knives and clothes. After waiting for the man and wife to fall asleep face up in their Yuen Long home, Chan allegedly stabbed the father in the throat. The court heard that the father sustained more than 100 stab wounds, while the mother had cuts on her head and body.

Fok told officers his mother said, “I am your mother and you are my son. I love you,” during the attack.

The trial continues.
