Want to make your mark on the future face of Hong Kong? The government’s clearly run out of ideas, as they’re asking for input from everyone and their mother for the Kai Tak River Development.
In all seriousness, it does sound quite cool. Both professionals (in the fields of architecture, engineering, landscaping, planning, urban design or surveying – no accountants please) and the general public can submit entries to the competition to pimp the part of the river that links the Kai Tak development and the Wong Ta Sin District.
This is what you’ve got to work with
Organised by the Civil Engineering and Development Department, in collaboration with a list of government bodies as long as your leg, the scheme will see the top three ideas submitted by a professional group receive HKD400,000, HKD150,000 and HKD100,000, respectively, while the winning entries in the public group will receive HKD80,000, HKD30,000 or HKD20,000.
That’s not fair. Surely it’s harder if you’re not a professional, and you should therefore get MORE prize money?
Registration for the competition will close on Sept. 22, with all entries required to be submitted between Oct. 30 and Nov. 3. So get messing around on Photoshop NOW!
If you’re looking for inspiration, Ying Fun-fong, head of the Kai Tak Office under the Civil Engineering and Development Department, told the media this week: “The theme of the competition is ‘Meandering Sentiments’. We hope to solicit innovative urban and landscape design ideas to transform the Kai Tak River into a people-oriented place with a mixture of vibrancy and tranquility for enjoyment and relaxation, integrating with the surrounding districts and thereby creating a more closely-knit community.”
That’s clear then.
