We’re all for the the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge here at Coconuts HK (what’s not to love?), but apparently some Hongkongers have been taking it a bit far, nominating babies…and actually executing the deed.
Although their authenticity cannot be verified, a number of videos that seem to show adults dousing babies and young children with ice cold water have sparked outrage online, with some netizens accusing parents of child abuse.
This first video shows a caregiver making sure the ice is melted into the water before screeching the toddler’s name multiple times to try and get his or her attention before the soaking. The baby responds, quite unsurprisingly, by crying.
The next video is perhaps even more shocking, as a tiny baby is held up, or possibly held down, by two adults as a third dumps the icy water on its head. According to a translation, the baby’s father and the family dog are the child’s challengers.
Finally we see the dousing of a slightly older child in this video, which is perhaps the least apologetic of all due to the accompaniment of funky background music and the video title “haha”.
According to Sina News, the police are investigating.
