Teen accused of trapping dog in washing machine ‘flees’ to mainland China

The teen accused of trapping a dog in a washing machine and posting the photos on his Facebook page has fled Hong Kong for his native mainland China, according to reports.

Chinese immigrant Jacky Lo sparked outrage last week when numerous pictures appearing to show a dog gasping for air in a washing machine were posted to his Facebook page under the roughly translated title, “a super-quick way to bathe a dog”. In a conversation with a friend under the post, Lo claimed that the dog had died.

The Facebook page has now been shut down, but a man claiming to be Lo has been continuing to make updates via other social media.

According to EjInsight, someone with the unsername “I am Jacky Lo” announced on Sina Weibo this week that the pictures were faked and he is no longer in Hong Kong, where he is believed to have posted the photos.

“I am now in the mainland, not Hong Kong. Police need not waste their time looking for me. Those materials [photos on Facebook] are fake. Don’t believe them,” he wrote, adding that his Facebook account had been hacked.

The user also lashed out at Netizens, who started a petition calling on Hong Kong authorities to take action, and has threatened to sue media outlets that published the unauthenticated photographs.

“Expose my identity? Report to the police? Do you [Hong Kong netizens] think you are Sherlock Holmes? Catch me if you can,” the man said, according to reports.

A police spokeswoman confirmed this weekend that the case is under investigation. “A picture has been posted onto the internet about an animal suspected of being tortured. It is a case of animal cruelty,” the spokeswoman told AFP.
