Love a good chow-down? LOVE Taiwan Festival is on its way to Hong Kong!

In a place like Hong Kong, where dining is put on a mouth-high pedestal, food festivals are gobbled up with glee. So when we heard whispers of the ‘LOVE Taiwan Festival & Taiwan Star-Rated Hotel Festival’ (quite a mouthful in all respects), we were instantly licking our lips in anticipation.

In an attempt to boost tourism for the recently troubled Kaohsiung City (gas explosions) and Penghu Island (plane crash), more than 20 Taiwanese farms and eateries will come together at the Plaza Hollywood in Diamond Hill from Sept. 19 – 22 to treat Hongkongers to a banquet of authentic Taiwanese flavours – apparently there’s more to it than Xiaolongbao. Who knew?

After a charitable donation of just HKD20, visitors will be able to take up one tasting session for free (or HKD20).

Going with the theme of Healthy & Nourishing Delicacies, the first two days of the festival will see world-renowned soy produce from Kaohsiung City and seafood from Penghu Island combined in a unique feast. Signature dishes include chocolate-coated sakura shrimp (sounds weird), a Qing Dynasty sweet soup with eight variations of beans and seeds (sounds healthy), sailfish soup (sounds gross) and sesame chicken with noodles (sold).

The third and fourth days will treat Hongkongers to hawker food from Taiwanese night markets. Get your local on with the likes of street-styled, award-winning beef noodles, oyster omelette, dandan noodles and Hsinchu City’s pork balls. YUM.

Believe it or not though, this festival is about way more than just food. Awww!

Farm owners will be bounding about in their wellies and dungarees (probably), ready to interact with guests and host traditional folk craftsmanship workshops. You can head home with a full belly, as well as DIY tote bags, postcards, and even pens whittled from the wood of the kiwi tree.

Major travel agencies and airlines will also be offering limited special packages to Kaohsiung City and Penghu Island, so you’ll be able to schedule the next fix of your new food addiction.

It’s safe to say, we’re gonna LOVE this food fest!
