Wall Street Journal, New York Times run ads requesting China avoid Tiananmen crackdown in Hong Kong

A group of “Finance and Banking professionals”, presumably with plenty of cash to splash, have taken out quarter page ads in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times calling on the Chinese president to avoid a “Tiananmen crackdown” on the Occupy Central Movement.

Taking the form of an open letter to President Xi Jinping, the ads request that the “One County: Two Systems” concept be honoured as prescribed by Basic Law.

Full text of the ad:

“To: President Xi Jingping,

People’s Republic of China

Please honour “One Country; Two Systems’ as prescribed in the Basic LAw.

Hong Kong people want true democracy.

Don’t stage a Tiananmen crackdown in Hong Kong. The whole world is watching.

From the Finance and Banking professionals who are passionate about the interests of Hong Kong, and also love China.”

The request is signed off “From the Finance and Banking professionals who are passionate about the interests of Hong Kong, and also love China.”

Let’s hope Xi Jinping reads the papers today.
