Mainlander attacks HKU professor during class, says people should learn Mandarin

On Monday Oct. 6, a young mainlander man attacked the professor in the middle of an HKU Media Law and Ethics class. He repeatedly hit the lecturer, a Brit who is also a senior editor for the SCMP, with his notebook then started kicking him.

The shocked students stopped the man, who claimed to be a student at Beijing’s Tsinghua University, from leaving the classroom and the police arrived to the scene to arrest him.

Later, the man said in interview that Hong Kong’s been returned to China and that “seven to eight years should be enough time to learn Chinese”. (It’s been more like seventeen years since the Handover, but sure.)

He also mentioned that he “can’t stand foreigners” and that he “gets along well with Chinese people”.
