Occupy Comedy Central: Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and John Oliver take on Hong Kong protests

It’s always a pleasure to watch this comedic trio give their take on world news, so it’s quite the treat to hear them talk about our very own Fragrant Harbour.

Jon Stewart is expectedly funny and on-point on The Daily Show, though it’s confusing when he uses “China” interchangeably for “Hong Kong”. He even talks about CY Leung’s daughter Facebook posts, a story Coconuts Hong Kong broke (toot toot!)

If you have a VPN that allows you to access sites otherwise inaccessible in Hong Kong (or mainland China), you can check out The Colbert Report’s clip on the protests here and Colbert’s interview with former NPR and BBC correspondent Louisa Lim here. (Psst… Get a VPN so you can watch Netflix!)

If not, you’ll have to make do with a short snippet from a round-up of an entire week of episodes, starting at the two-minute mark:

And last but not least, we have John Oliver’s show, Last Week Tonight, the most informative segment of them all. Oliver’s Britishness is particularly apropos here. Embedding’s been disabled (boo!) so you’ll have to watch it here.

We wonder if Comedy Central and HBO are aware of the irony of the fact that they are actively preventing Hongkongers from watching these TV hosts comment on Hong Kong’s own protests… which involve, to some degree, the fight against censorship.
