VIDEO: Hong Kong hating pop song is pretty weird but uber catchy!

It’s no secret that Hong Kong’s a slightly difficult place to live right now, especially if you’re not super-duper rich. We’ve got Occupy Central, rumours of government corruption, crazy working hours, and rental prices as high as Mount Everest.

We all complain from time to time, by how many of us turn these grumbles into a pop song complete with a music video? Not few enough, it seems.

We couldn’t stifle our chuckles when we came across this Hong Kong hating song on Vimeo. We won’t ruin it for you. Have a watch and a giggle or two.

We’re pretty sure the song is bordering on catchy, especially that “hoo-haa, hoo-hoo-haa” bit, reminiscent of that scene in Finding Nemo.

Oh, and here’s a Fun Fact: despite the PSY-chic thing lead singer Wan Kwong’s got going on, the so-called “Temple Street Prince” is actually trained as a Cantonese opera artist. Bizarre, huh?

What we appreciate most about this musical triumph however is its golden, philosophical, and sometimes downright weird lyrics. Perhaps some of them were lost in translation.

Here’s a sample:

It’s futile to work all my life. No matter how hard I work, there is no future (A bit depressing.)

Sleeping under overpasses is the makeshift plan. It’s warm during winter, and cool during summer, and doesn’t charge a management fee (Pretty practical.)

I really wish I could break my two legs and my family owned a rice shop  (Totally frickin’ random!)

Even if you don’t see what we see in this little anarchistic toe-tapper, stick it out until the end for the ice cream guy. You’ll know him when you see him.
