The Hong Kong Police Force’s PR branch (which is surely working overtime these days) has released a video – well, slideshow, really – titled “Mission・Hong Kong Police” in order “to garner respect for the officers’ dedicated efforts”, says the government.
The photos, the police say, is proof of the force’s “professionalism” and “unity”.
There is, unsurprisingly, no mention of that other footage that appeared to show seven cops taking turns to kick an arrested, handcuffed civilian or that other time when they allegedly beat up a reporter. But the police force known as “Asia’s finest” has indeed been “patient” and “restrained” for the most part.
This is not the first video that the police have released as part of their battle to reclaim their reputation. In fact, they’ve released three such videos in the past month.
This one below, designed to pull at your heartstrings, is called “Support・Backing You Up” depciting how the police force takes care of the officers who work on the frontlines of Occupy Central.
Lastly, “Regain・Because of you”, perhaps inspired by Kelly Clarkson’s hit song, features regular citizens’ messages of support.
It’s all a bit on the cheesy side, but we hope that if anything, these videos helped to boost officer morale.
