A man has been arrested on suspicion of throwing acid at staff, customers and a four-year-old child at two Café de Coral outlets.
The 46-year-old, randomly described as having a pink backpack, allegedly made his first attack at the Tai Yau Street (San Po Kong) branch of the fast food restaurant at around 1pm on Monday.
Not satisfied and clearly with a major grudge against Café de Coral (despite the fact that he’s reportedly never worked there), the man then moved on to a branch in the Tsz Wan Shan shopping centre where he repeated the act.
Brave restaurant staff at the second location chased the attacker to the nearby Tsz Ching Estate but he disappeared, only to be found by police at around 5pm at the same location, where he reportedly lives.
It is believed the man is unemployed, lives on his own but has no history of mental illness. Officers reportedly took no chances, however, and were geared up to the teeth with batons, shields and helmets.
In total, eight people were hurt across both attacks. Only two of the eight, including the four-year-old boy, were customers, with the rest made up of staff members.
According to the SCMP, six victims, including the boy, were discharged from Queen Elizabeth Hospital by yesterday evening.
