After Nathan Road cleared by police, scuffles erupt overnight as protesters try to reoccupy streets

All six lanes of Nathan Road were cleared by 3pm yesterday after a night of violent clashes between the police and protesters. But demonstrators continued to attempt to retake the roads throughout the night, starting from 10pm, reports the SCMP.

However, the scuffles did not seem nearly as violent as they were on Tuesday night and in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Although there were some reports of injuries.

It seems the police are not taking any chances with protesters who want to reoccupy the streets, as apparently 6,000 officers will be assigned to Mong Kok until Sunday to prevent such attemps.

As bailiffs attempted to clear Argyle on Tuesday, 55 people, with the youngest being only 14 years old and the oldest 69, were arrested for contempt of court and obstructing the police.

Later on Tuesday evening and through the early hours of Wednesday, 93 people were arrested for offenses including possession of weapons, disorderly conduct, unlawful assembly and assaulting a police officer, bringing the total number of arrested people up to 148.
