CY Leung denies curfew rumours, says no further measures needed if people just stop occupying streets (duh)

Hong Kong Chief Executive CY Leung said if citizens stop occupying the streets, then “we don’t need to consider using court injunctions, we don’t need to consider using bailiffs, we don’t need to consider using the police, nor would there be the need to consider the rumoured ‘curfew’, or similar measures to restore social order”.

Ming Pao reports that when Leung was asked if there was a need for a curfew in Mong Kok, he noted that the possibility of the protests taking a sour turn was indeed evident after the clashes on Tuesday and Wednesday. But he also stated that it would not be the best approach for the government to take such drastic measures.

Maybe he learned the lesson the hard way when tear gas did a better job of attracting people to the streets rather than repelling them, and is now determined not to make the same mistake twice. Personal development, good for him.

Leung was speaking in South Korea where he’s been meeting local officials, including the president.
