Hate it when your server sticks his thumb in your bowl of noodles? Here’s one Hong Kong designer’s solution.

You anxiously await your steaming bowl of wonton noodles. You see the server approach your table, and your salivary glands get involuntarily overexcited. He plops the bowl on your table and, to your dismay, you see his thumb a good three centimetres deep into the broth, perhaps even grazing a wonton.

Oh well, this is Hong Kong and such incidents are inevitable here, so you slurp your noodles happily anyway. But is it unavoidable? Not if the idea of Tony Electronic, a local artist, catches on!

Unfortunately, Tony decided to plug his Canto into Google Translate or something, and the resulting English is unintelligible. Here’s what it says:

“So you’re having your good ol’ bowl of satay beef noodles with sausage, and he sticks his finger in it, it’s enough to make you want to puke…”

His solution?

The “Hygiene Insert”!

The special design allows the waiter to stick his thumb into the space provided while keeping your noodles nice and uncontaminated. We wholeheartedly agree with his suggestion that all Hong Kong diners use the insert (and it might just happen, with 440+ Facebook shares and counting).

One fan posted this altered image as a response, implying that even if these inserts were used, waiters would find a way to stick their fingers where they don’t belong. He’s probably right.
