We had no idea who Marvin Brooks was until we stumbled across this reel of his “live acoustic session” in Hong Kong.
In music video terms there’s still something to be desired here, but it’s still cool to see our city star as the backdrop to an undeniably beautiful voice.
Singing alongside some skinny dude with baller sunglasses on guitar, Brooks takes us around a few choice Hong Kong locations, including the Shelly Street escalators and that big wheel thing, as he tells the story of a chance encounter with a hot French girl.
Clearly not a master of her tongue, Brooks explains in the chorus: “Désolé, Désolé, Je ne parle pas Français.”
Nice job with the whole song writing thing, mate, but it might have been quicker to just say, “I can’t speak French, so I let the funky music do the talking.”
