Defence Lawyer: HK maid faked abuse because she hated the saliva of her employer’s dog

An Indonesian maid cooked up a story about her Hong Kong employer abusing her because she was offended by the saliva of the woman’s dog, a defence lawyer has claimed.

Anis Andriyani is accusing her employer, Ngan Suk-wai, of grabbing her by the wrist, pressing her hand to a chopping board and cutting her finger with a knife because she shook a broom at a woman’s barking dog.

She said the incident happened it February last year at Ngan’s flat in Pokfulam Gardens.

In Hong Kong’s District Court today, however, defence lawyer Adonis Cheung (let’s hope he’s buff with a first name like that), suggested 26-year-old Andriyani had concocted the story because, as a Muslim, she was grossed out by the dog’s saliva and therefore wanted to change employers.

Islam.about.com claims, “Most Muslim scholars agree that the saliva of a dog is ritually impure.”

Ngan, 39, pleaded not guilty to a charge of wounding with intent, reports SCMP.

Despite being cross examined pretty harshly, Andriyani may have taken some solace from the high profile presence of Erwiana Sulistyaningsih in the gallery today.

Sulistyaningsih is another former Indonesian maid currently waiting for the verdict in an alleged abuse case against her previous employer Lan Wan-tung.

Andriyani’s trial is due to resume next week.
