Pro-democracy activists plan to paint the Hong Kong Marathon yellow

Hong Kong’s pro-democracy activists are hoping to utilise Sunday’s marathon to get their message to the masses.

According to reports by Ming Pao Daily, many runners will have the well-known “I want real universal suffrage” slogan emblazoned on their jerseys thanks to volunteers who set up a free printing service at the old Occupy site in Admiralty.

Other runners and spectators are expected to carry yellow umbrellas to show their support for the movement, and some even plan to – shock-horror – boo Police Commissioner Andy Tsang and Chief Secretary Carrie Lam who are due to attend.

William Ko, chairman of the annual Standard Chartered Marathon, confirmed that runners can wear what the hell they want (there’s always a banana or two), as long as their actions don’t cause any conflict along the route.

He warned, however, that “police may get involved” if anyone restricts the runners.

That includes you, banana man.
