A 12-year-old girl is being hunted down by Hong Kong police after she calmly stole a diamond necklace worth a cool HKD36 million (USD4.6 million) on Friday like it was no big deal.
The heist occurred at around 4pm at the Emperor Watch and Jewellery store in Tsim Sha Tsui’s fancy 1881 Heritage mall.
The diminutive girl was tasked with the actual theft as two women and one man distracted the shop staff by asking to see some jewellery, reports Apple Daily.
The three adults, who were speaking Mandarin, were between the ages of 30 and 40 and are believed to be mainlanders.
Unlike the child however, they unquestionably understood the full ramifications of their actions.
A police source for the SCMP says they “posed as big spenders”.
To be fair, if they’ve ever pulled off a heist of this scale before, they might just well be loaded with cash to burn.
While the shopkeepers’ eyes were turned away, the little girl slithered behind the shop desk and stole the keys to a glass case, which contained an eye-popping 117-carat diamond necklace, featuring 30 shimmering gems.

As if she already weren’t gutsy enough, the case was right at the entrance.
She opened the case, slid the jewellery off its stand, and walked out of the store, hands in her hoodie pockets – where the necklace was now hidden – and seemingly without a care in the world.
The police believe the 12-year-old may have quickly changed her appearance before getting into a cab to make her getaway.
Questionable parenting aside, that is one independent child.
The criminal trio remained inside the store for a little longer, as if nothing happened. This is the work of seasoned professionals, ladies and gentlemen.
The oblivious staff were in for a massive shock when they finally noticed the missing jewellery at at 4:52pm.
The police are investigating the case, and in the meantime, be very, very careful of tween girls.
