Get your Umbrella Movement red packets just in time for Chinese New Year

“Unfold the Umbrella. Bestow with fortune.”

Not exactly an age-old saying, but it’s gracing the front of a “lai see” red envelope anyway. (If you haven’t been lucky enough to receive one, Chinese people traditionally give out red envelopes containing cash during Chinese New Year.)

Umbrella Movement supporters have created a protest-themed “lai see” featuring the traditional “fuk” character, meaning good fortune, and of course, a little yellow umbrella.

“Fresh from the printer and it’s free!! We’ll announce the ways of distribution within this week!” the Facebook page 5 People Plus announced yesterday.

Here’s another photo they posted of the printing process:

5 People Plus is “dedicated to carrying on the UmbrellaHK culture” by “shar[ing] different kinds of art work cultivated in the Spirit of UmbrellaHK”.
