Hong Kong’s Burger Takeover returns with Canadian crumpet-clad ‘The Meater’

We’re not sure if you’ve noticed, but Hong Kong is OBSESSED with burgers.

There have been many a burger-off in the media of late, with the Butchers Club colossal classic always finding itself near the top, if not at the top, of the food chain.

But is it possible to have too much of a good thing? Not really when it comes to awesome burgers, but we have heard some mutterings about variety being spicy, or something like that.

After clearly getting distracted by the whole opening-yet-another-restaurant thing, the Butchers Club is finally getting the buns toasted and beef pounded once again for the return of Burger Takeover. Yipee!

This time the visiting “celebrity chef” is none other than Michael Blackie, co-owner of Ottawa’s Nextfood.ca.

No offence to our buddy, Blackie, but don’t all rush at once with your autograph books/selfie sticks. The guy doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page yet, bless him, so he doesn’t technically exist in real-famous-life.

Genuine celebrity credentials aside, we’re pretty sure this guy can cook.

If you don’t believe us, test the theory yourself at the brand new Butchers Club Burger Central (112 -114 Wellington Street, Central), where you can sample Blackie’s “The Meater” burger from tonight until Feb. 8.

Want us to whet your appetite? How does 180g of AAA Canadian beef patty, Kozlik’s Triple Crunch Canadian Mustard (which is by all accounts the bomb), fried green tomatoes, red chilli and gouda cheese between two crumpets sound?

And yes, we did say crumpets.

You can also feel reasonably reasonable about consuming your day’s worth of calories in one sitting, as five percent of the HKD160 mighty Meater price tag will go directly to Blackie’s chosen charity, Autism Partnership Hong Kong.

That sure is a moo-ving gesture. (Sorry, Mondays are tough.)
