If you’re planning on jetting out of Hong Kong for Chinese New Year but are yet to buy your tickets, turns out you’re a very smart traveller indeed.
The Civil Aviation Department (CAD) announced today that maximum fuel surcharges for the month of February will come down around 37 percent.
The surcharges, which allow airlines to partially recover some of what they lose when fuel prices increase, are reviewed on a monthly basis by the CAD.
From Feb. 1 to Feb. 28, the add-ons will remain at a maximum of HKD81 for short-haul flights and HKD356 for long-haul flights.
That compares to HKD129 and HKD566, respectively, for January.
The discount is based on the ticket issue date, so unfortunately there will be no benefit for all those annoyingly organised people who booked their tickets months in advance.
Sometimes it pays to be lazy!
