Ultra Boring: Admiralty ultramarathoners to run 1km stretch of road 50 times

If you ask us, running is pretty boring as it is.

But the Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association (HKAAA) appears to want to test just how boring running can be: the course for their 50-kilometre ultramarathon on March 1 consists of a one-kilometre stretch of road… run 50 times.

The course is on Lung Wo Road in Admiralty, which until now was most famous for a series of clashes between pro-democracy protesters and police as the former repeatedly tried to occupy it.

More than 300 runners have registered for the race, with hundreds also taking part in the team relay, reports the SCMP.

We hope medics will be on hand to treat those who succumb to Repetitive Menial Task Syndrome, symptoms of which include glazed-over eyes, an inability to move, and general unresponsiveness.

“Given the difficulty to arrange closure of roads of that length, we will possibly make improvements by increasing the length of each lap in coming years,” said Kwan Kee, the chairman of the HKAAA.

Next year: a hamster wheel ultramarathon.
