CocoBeats: Hong Kong’s 10 best music events this March

March is madness, what with the weather finally warming up, the Sevens, pre-Sevens, and post-Sevens. If you still have the liver capacity to party (or if you are able to listen to music at clubs without drinking), we’ve rounded up the month’s top 10 music events.

(NOTE: We did not include One Direction’s concert on March 18, but here’s more info if you really, really, really needed it for some reason.)

James Lavelle

Best known as a founding member of British group UNKLE, James Lavelle has been around for years shaping the world’s trip-hop and psych-rock scene. At age 20, he founded the now-famous Mo’Wax record label, and has been producing and spinning non-stop ever since.

Ed Sheeran

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran’s songs have been played on airwaves all around the world since recording the duet “Everything Has Changed” with Taylor Swift. Now the ginge is a global star in his own right, with hits like “Thinking Out Loud”, “I See Fire”, “Little Things”.

Pitbull

This night will probably be like your regular night out at a club, except as if the DJ’s turntables were stuck on Pitbull records. It might not be the best musical performance you’ve ever seen, but it will likely be a fun night out with the Asia-World Expo interestingly decking out the arena with club-style tables – at HKD15,000 each, including 10 tickets.

Rhye

LA-based, half-Canadian, half-Danish duo Rhye is a mysterious music group with equally hazy music. Ticketflap describes them as lying between “the worlds of The xx and Sade”, if you can picture that at all. All you need to know is that the New York Times called them seductive, so prepare to be seduced by their ethereal sounds.
