Buy HKD5,000 worth of jewellery or we won’t take you to Disneyland, tour guide tells mainlander

A tourist from Harbin, China, claims that organisers of a tour group she joined refused to take her to Disneyland as she didn’t spend a minimum of HKD5,000 at a jewellery store.

The woman, aged 58 and surnamed Pan, joined the tour in Shenzhen along with some family and friends, paying HKD750 a head.

The group had already visited various tourist sites like Ocean Park and the Avenue of the Stars when the tour group was dropped off at a jewellery store in Cheung Sha Wan yesterday, reports Apple Daily.

Once inside, Pan claims that their guide shut the doors and told the tourists to spend at least HKD5,000, threatening that otherwise, they wouldn’t be taken to Disneyland and their luggage would be thrown off the bus.

After purchasing a gold pendant worth HKD2,680, Pan got into a dispute with the tour guide, who said she did not spend enough.

Pan, who is apparently only willing to get half-scammed but not fully scammed, called the police at 11am. For the next two hours the police mediated the argument, with the travel agents being called.

The jewellery company eventually agreed to refund Pan along with eight other tourists.

Pan then got back on the tour bus to continue her travels, which would surely be rather awkward.

Clearly this is a woman determined to get her money’s worth, even if that means spending a few days guided by a known criminal.
