Hong Kong Customs arrest 29-year-old Filipina at airport with 1.8kg of suspected cocaine

A 29-year-old woman from the Philippines was arrested at Hong Kong International Airport yesterday after a powdered substance suspected to be cocaine was found in hidden compartments inside her carry-on luggage.

The woman, who has not been identified by authorities, arrived in Hong Kong on a flight from Manila.

Suspicions were aroused by an “abnormally heavy” briefcase she was carrying.

On closer inspection, customs officers discovered hidden compartments inside the case where the powdered substance was stashed.

The woman is due to appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates’ Courts tomorrow where she will face one count of trafficking of a dangerous drug.

She could face life imprisonment and a fine of HKD5 million if found guilty.
