Good news for everyone who had posters of Breakfast at Tiffany’s Audrey Hepburn or Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe on their college dorm wall – so, 90 percent of everyone in the world. Hyper twee, super modernised, larger-than-life versions of those iconic images are coming your way!
Comix Home Base in Wan Chai will host “The Big Era – 1960s World Celebrity Portrait Exhibition”, pairing an already hip art event with an uber cool open-air venue.
The series features massive (we’re talking 5 by 4 meters) portraits of 60s icons – like John F. Kennedy, Mao Zedong and the two previously mentioned film idols – painstakingly assembled by artist and collector Ng Lung Wai out of thousands of collectable European stickpin badges and vintage Hong Kong stamps.
By juxtaposing these rare items with the iconic subjects, Ng’s work offers a subtle and nuanced cultural and social commentary on muses and components, apparently.
