You know you’ve made it when you get a dedicated light show on the ICC. After 40 years, the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens has finally made it!
The “Hong Kong’s Rugby Spirit” light show – brought to us by the ICC and the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union Community Foundation – sees the iconic building’s 490 metre-high facade strewed with images meant to convey success, determination, teamwork, respect and pride – which are apparently values shared by both Hong Kong and the sport of rugby.
Teamed, rather weirdly, with crazy Greek-dancing-style music in this video, the show kicks off with the quintessential rhetorical question for exciting things: “Are you ready?”.
This is followed by a massive rugby ball, emblazoned with the word “rugby” (in case you were in any doubt about the sport), being kicked by a massive guy wearing a “I ‘heart’ HK” t-shirt (in case you were in any doubt about who we’re cheering for).
We won’t spoil the rest for you.
The best places to watch the real-life lightshow from are Tamar Park, the IFC Mall terraces on Podium 3 and 4 and Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park.
