Shandong governor promises residents won’t go ‘scrambling for milk powder’ in Hong Kong

The governor of Shandong Province, on the Eastern coast of China, has pleaded with people to stop going to Hong Kong just to buy milk powder.

Guo Shuqing told Beijing politicians yesterday that he didn’t want to see too many Shandong residents visiting Hong Kong, reports Bloomberg.

“Shandong has a big population and we don’t want to see too many individual tourists creating pressure for Hong Kong,” Guo said.

“Especially we don’t want to see Shandong people running to Hong Kong to buy milk powder. We promise Shandong people won’t go there scrambling for milk powder.”
