Hong Kong restaurants get splashed with red paint in apparent attack

An Italian restaurant in Wan Chai was closed yesterday after it was apparently splashed with red paint in an attack.

A photo posted by local blog Hong Wrong shows the front windows of the Opera House Italian Restaurant & Bistrot covered in red paint.

Splashing the façade of an establishment with red paint is commonly believed to be a triad “warning”.

Two Chinese restaurants in Wan Chai and Tsuen Wan were also splashed with red paint on Wednesday, according to Hong Wrong.

Shares in the owner of the two restaurants, Gayety Holdings, fell by 14 percent after the incident.

Opera House has not returned Coconuts HK’s request for comment.
