Asia Contemporary Art Show sees the colour of money with record sales of HKD28 million

Hotel rooms are the perfect place to sell art, it seems. After the sixth edition of the Asia Contemporary Art Show (ACAS) wrapped up on Sunday, the organisers have announced record sales and attendance.

The popular art fair, which sees thousands of contemporary pieces exhibited in rooms across four floors at the Conrad Hong Kong Hotel twice a year, recorded record sales of HKD28 million between March 13 and 15, according to an exit survey of exhibitors.

“The market is strong for quality works, and Hong Kong Art Week in mid March has certainly become a mecca for international collectors and art lovers to visit the city,” said Mark Saunderson, Director of Asia Contemporary Art Ltd.

Well over 10,000 art lovers also came flocking to the event. And even better for said art lovers is the fact that, unlike other Hong Kong art shows, ACAS leaves the lights on all year round, allowing potential art owners to continue to browse and buy the works of more than 700 global artists on the fair’s website.

Tanya Baxter, owner of the creatively-named Tanya Baxter Contemporary gallery, said she’s sold many works during the latest and previous ACAS fairs, including originals from Andy Warhol and Banksy.

“The Asia Contemporary Art Show continues to be an exciting platform for international artists – it has both emerging and established artists. It also, shows some of the top ten artists worldwide, such as Warhol,” she added.

The Fall Edition of the ACAS will be held on Oct. 8-11, again at the Conrad Hong Kong Hotel.
